More Gandhi’s or Abdul Kalams, Ambanis, Chidambarams, Praful Patels, Murthys, Premjis

Posted by vipuljhawar on October 21, 2007

Ricky ponting, the australian captain spins a charkha in Mumbai, Times of India a leading Indian newspaper puts a quarter page photograph to inform about T20 match between India and Australia. They applied a Gandhi touch and have always been doing this, and they are running a Lead India campaign to find a future leader for India. :-) I can only smile at them… because i really doubt their intention. It’s not their fault, but Mahatma Gandhi is deeply rooted in here, why? Trust me every aspiring leader is asked about his Mahatma Gandhi thoughts and rated on Mahatma Gandhi IQ . Why?

Trust me I am not from Hindustan Times :-) and they not much different too, I buy both the newspapers but it’s been long since I have been seeing a charkha , I would love to see a laptop or a mobile or a satellite or a tall building or another picture on the Indian currency note.

India has been growing rapidly and hopefully for the good. Everything is changing dramatically from roads, airports to buildings. All jazzy car makers lining up in India to sell their latest models in India. Monorails, Subways or Metros in each and every city for public transport. All notable fashion brands, broadband internet, latest mobile phones you name it and you have it. High paying jobs, increased awareness among the people, a more powerful middle class, higher literacy rate, airlines to every nook and corner, indian satellites in space and people all over the world learning new definitions of the word – Indian. So what is it that has changed India suddenly in the last 5 years, “Gandhi”.

Majority of my leaders and countrymen would still say, we are here because of Gandhi, Nehru etc. But do they have any statistical data to prove this? So, why is it that we still hear so much about our so called great leaders, politicians still spread their ideologies, address the UN to remember them and prescribe the ‘Gandhi antibiotic’ for the worldly diseases. Do they have any statistical data to support as to what benefit we would derive from Gandhi’s ideology in each and every aspect of life, now? My memory and political knowledge is short but brand India is created and respected only NOW all over the world because we now have millions of IT workers working for almost every company in the world, we have airlines based out of India flying to different skies in the world, our business leaders are buying companies in the east, west, The Indian oil major’s are buying oil fields in every part of the world. We are launching satellites in the space and are one fastest growing economies of the world. We have changed from a country of plain white cloth men spinning the wheel to a demand driven, retail hungry, infrastructure building, dollar aggregating, business sensitive country. We have ourselves bought a chair for us on the World dining table, we were not invited because we had Gandhi. So, why is that we need to see the khadi or charkha ads and a conscious attempt by everyone to put a layer of Gandhi and Nehru sauce over the fresh and tasty sandwiches that Indians are preparing all over the world sixty years down the line.

I am tired of seeing Gandhi on the Indian currency since my childhood, I need a change. Gandhi was good, played a key role but it’s been 60 years, we need to check out other guys. He needs to be promoted from father of the nation to fore father of the nation and create space below to let other people be crowned for the glory. Gandhi has been like the end of file header for the last sixty years, and nothing else follows it. It has been like a stamp which when applied to any work, speech or action earns a license of being a fair practice no matter what the result would be. Do you think that Gandhi ever wanted this ? I don’t think so.

We need more Kalam’s, Patel’s, Murthy’s, Premji’s, Ambani’s who are hungry to bring the best to India because that way they earn money, power and fame. I know some businesses do bribe government, kill some traditional pockets of employment but if you see the bigger picture we do need them but for sure not another Gandhi or Nehru clone. We need to get out of the “Certified to Gandhi Standards System” stamp from our lives because deep within, we really don’t follow it anymore and nor does it apply any more. All we need is people with an intent of doing good for the people and the masses, not the way our so called “Father of the nation” asked us to. It’s time to realize that the word India in the dictionary needs a meaning, synonym more than Gandhi, Nehru. We need to add commas and print more definitions to it.

My thanks to Gandhi for the best he did to India, I love him for that. By writing all this I am not insulting or shadowing his efforts. One quality about great men is their names transform from a proper noun to an adjective, and that applies to Gandhi too. I think he never asked us to pray him, so maybe he is not the one to blame for this, but it’s for us to realize that India needs another way of thinking. It’s time to drop the word like, Don’t be like Gandhi, be someone parallel to him or above him. If ever I would be called great, I would always want to be known by my name only my name and not because I am like Gandhi or only followed Gandhi. Some people i have mentioned above have done this in their own style, but then most of them would humbly thank and say our vision, policies etc were always based on Gandhi’s ideology. :-) Give me break. That’s the problem, the brand Gandhi does not need any more free promotion. I am not against him, but I am against a superficial effort by everyone in branding or sub branding everything in India as Gandhi or Sub Gandhi because they feel you have a good public image if you put a tag Gandhi on your shirt. The day the public perception changes, we would see more parallel tags, brands and definitions in India and may be someone who would be eligible to be another father of the nation not because he is Gandhi because he his him. I think that is what Gandhi truly wanted.

Ricky Ponting – Hug me or Get Lost !!!

Posted by vipuljhawar on September 28, 2007

Thank God !!! I am not Ricky Ponting. Superstars, Holly/Bollywood stars all do charity, auctions but this was a stunning one. A guy buys all the charity and pecks a kiss on Ricky’s face. Man… he must have had 10 vodka shots before getting onto the podium to do that.

Watch the whole fiasco – http://www.ndtv.com/convergence/ndtv/videopod/default.aspx?id=17490

I am not sure if Ricky will do any more charity in India. The man forgot that the event was for charity and not for proving whether English discriminate us or not. They do and will always continue to do, you don’t have to kiss someone  in public to get rid of that. And what difference does it make, first get rid of the crap in your country – quotas, reservations… that’s a blessing not a discrimination? and what not just to prove democracy, secularism, upliftment of the poor.

The worst part was that he tried to prove, that he can buy anything and Ricky has to accept it or GET LOST. He feels they have a culture of hugging and kissing so hwy can’t he hug and kiss me. What a thought !!! You have to be out of your senses to behave that way. Only a pig who lives in shit and enjoys shit can behave this way. Had it not been for charity, this guy wouldn’t even have been able to buy even Ricky’s used underpants, forget a bat.

So BEWARE !!! next time you or wife are invited to a charity event and you guys land on stage, someone may bid and plant a kiss on your wife’s rosy cheeks, and he too could say Hug Me or GET LOST.

I know a majority of Indian’s and political parties would support him, make him a hero because he used the word discrimination, but it’s a shame, such people should go to an auction not to a charity event. One thing which i have not understood till date is when will my fellow countrymen know the meaning of the words/phrases – BEHAVE, STANDING IN A QUEUE, POLITE, RESPECT OTHERS PROPERTY. If you see guys using words like sex, fuck, ass blah blah in their language, Indians would mostly feel bad, shy about it but when on road or in a public place causing any degree of annoyance to someone would not affect them.  I have not understood what is that the term so often used ‘values’ refers to ? Maybe India needs to get practical before valuing it’s values. Go to a charity for charity not for hugging, kissing or thinking that a hug from Ricky would help you get rid of the discrimination.

Yahoo photos closing

Posted by vipuljhawar on September 8, 2007

As Yahoo puts on it’s post – All good things come to an end… Yeah Yahoo photos is shutting down. Until Web 2.0 banged us Yahoo photos was the place for showing off your pics. I have never liked googles photo sharing site, somehow it never kicked me.

Flickr is good, its jazzy, it’s sexy but still i would miss Yahoo photos for its simplicity, for being the one which made photo sharing a big trend in india at least. I will move onto Flickr, but still Yahoo photos is [soon to be was], a simple classical photo sharing site. It looks like a IT consulting company telling its 50 year old Manager, dude we longer find you that energetic, sexy and fitting into our offerings, you have done a lot for us but the new guy on the bench is the one who will hold the baton. Thank You. We think he will drive the next generation.

Thank you Yahoo Photos !.

I have seen products evolving, enhancing but very few of the big ones totally dying. So, will every online app too have an age, If yes what ?

So if you are on Yahoo photos, please move on and decide whether you wanna flickr or upload all the stuff to a new site…

Harry Potter – A billion $ boom

Posted by vipuljhawar on July 28, 2007

Harry Potter… Finally i had to tolerate him :-) .

Yeah tolerate is the perfect word i would use. I had evaded him till date but as a muggle could not escape his magic forever. I know he has a great fan following, children and adults swear by him, he is the new age GOD. Credit to Rowling for being able to ride waves of success all over the world till date but what’s the difference? It’s has turned out to be another billion $ startup that too out of a single employee.

Recently when i had to finally give in to the pressure to watch Potter in the movie ‘The Order of the phoenix’ at Satyam Cineplex Delhi, i realized that he is no less than God for kids. The ticket vendors were dressed like witches, the whole place was decorated with brooms, yeah brooms and everyone was so happy. One of the guys was so happy he was flying on the brooms in the intermission [see the pic]. Trust me he would never pick up a broom ever in life to clean his house, but Harry made him ride the broom. Every single guy was trying to impress his girl more and more discussing Harry one or the other way. Looking into their girl’s eye they would say – You read this/that, you know Harry wears this, i finished this book in one day, i stood all night on the road to buy that book… and everything they said was Potter way. Man girls are impressed by witchcraft too nowadays, so next time you wanna impress HER talk Bengal ka kala jadoo (Bengal’s black magic) as that is famous too, Sufi baba’s and what not, i am sure she will be impressed. Such has been the effect of potter, he rules kids, college dates, parents have to bear him as kids would kick them if they hated Harry. He has created a billion $ industry from books, toys, clothes to movies.

Although i was and would never be impressed by Harry for what he is but would be thankful to Rowling for creating a billion $ brand. She did all this without much physical resources, labour, factories, any venture capital or seed funding, public listing etc. which is great. Just pen and paper, Dude !!! is all she required to create a billion $ enterprise and everyone from the movie maker to the broom maker earned money. The point to note is that witches, magic have such great effect on people that money falls through the roof for them. That is why black magic, superstition and nukkad babas are so famous in India as this is another unorganized billion $ industry. They are not doing anything good or bad but they too exploit the same way through their own real life Voldemort’s, Dumbeldore’s. I know we all hate the village magic when shown on news, read in newspaper or see some of our friend’s following it but Harry escaped with billion $ and are you sure he did no harm ?

A book or two was ok but seven damn books and he is still alive although he was suppose to die as told by shutterbugs means real business. Not that spiderman, batman or superman could be a part of this case but Harry has brought into light the business which is practiced in society. Truly speaking the only thing i gained after watching the movie was that witches, spells, magic and third world are bound to engage people and will continue to make $$$.

So as per the current trend you are an informed individual if you know Potter’s latest release, your girlfriend is impressed if you can speak out all his tricks in front of her but you swear that you don’t believe all this and the ordinary man on the street is a fool because he wearing five stones to get blessings of his ancestors and keep his family witches at peace. So, if Harry can manage to pick pockets of well educated people, it’s damn easy for the baba’s to have their own fan following. So, the baba’s and the black is magic is here to stay as it’s one the most easiest way to mint money. The baba’s may not be as glorified or well marketed as the nice white round specy Potter has been but that doesn’t mean that education would wipe out baba’s from the system. Witchcraft, superstition, magic are here to stay as entertainment for some, as a religious practice for some and as a business for some.

So don’t be amazed if you see a real life Harry fighting Voldemort in public because Harry is still alive, amazes muggles and i am not sure if the buck stopped at 7 but i surely believe it’s time for another billion $ boom.

Shit Happens :-)

Posted by vipuljhawar on June 24, 2007

Shit Happens !!!

What comes to your mind when you take a deep breath, relax and read this phrase. Yeah !!! it does happen, but then what should you do? It’s been some years since i have been using this phrase to justify something wrong which affects me. This is not my baby, but i learnt it from my gr8 frn DC aka Deepak. You get frustrated, bogged down by problems, know you are not the reason, why the hell should you fix up such crap, why the hell is this happening to you… and then you have a bad day. So when things go out of control i just say ‘Shit Happens’ and try to move on. Everyone has their own means of overcoming such hair raising problems but i have always benefited by linking issues or sequences of events which may affect your daily life to some home/friends grown phrases, and then try to calm down. It indeed works.

There are many more phrases i have learnt over time and just speak out to encounter such situations in life. These phrases have just been picked up from lines of ppl i have been around with. Lets see where can i take my phrase search to.

So, next time you know you are against a daemon, wrestling againstwhom is not gonna produce any results just exclaim – It’s shit, and shit happens !!! When it happens just jump over it, don’t mess with it otherwise you too will smell bad and look filthy. :-)
